The deadline for registration for the Consortium entrance test has now passed.
However registration for September 2020 entry is still open for LATE APPLICATIONS.
You can still complete and submit this form and will receive an acknowledgement that your details have been received. Please see the individual schools' web sites for further details.

Registrations submitted after the closing date MAY be rejected. Further details will follow from the Test Centre you select on the form as to the procedures for accepted late applications.

SEPTEMBER 2020 ENTRY -

  • The consortium of grammar schools in Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton has agreed that the Entrance Test for 2020-2021, will NOT be re-arranged for candidates who are engaged in pre-planned activities, such as school trips, on the test date.


  • Welcome to the Grammar Schools in Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton Consortium. By completing this form your child is eligible to sit the optional entrance test for the following schools (click the school name below to visit that school's website in a new window):

    • Haberdashers' Adams School
    • Newport Girls' High School
    • Queen Mary's Grammar School
    • Queen Mary's High School
    • Wolverhampton Girls' High School

    The entrance test will be held on Monday, 16 September 2019.

    You only need to register once to enable your child to sit the entrance test.

    Do not, under any circumstances, make a duplicate, on-line registration for your child. If you have a query or concern at any time during the registration process, please speak to the test centre school immediately.

    It is important to note that your child will only be considered for a place at any of the grammar schools within the Consortium of Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton if the school is listed on your Common Application Form, submitted to your home Local Authority by the due date. Therefore, please ensure that you complete your home, Local Authority secondary school preference form CAF1 and submit by the due return date.

    Once you have submitted this online registration you will receive an email to confirm it has been submitted successfully.

    Please check your junk / spam email folder before contacting us if you have not received it.

    You will have the opportunity to view and scrutinise the details that you have submitted on your on-line registration. Please check this detail very carefully. Following this, if you identify that you have made a mistake, please speak to the test centre school immediately.

    We will try to place boys at their preferred choice of exam centre. However the final allocation will be determined by the Schools.

    A notification letter giving information on the outcome of the test will be sent out week commencing 21st October 2019, or earlier if at all possible, in time for parents to complete their LA preference form, CAF1.

    BOYS' parents will receive only ONE results letter from the school at which their child has sat the test.

    You are able to select your preference for the test centre for the girls' school.

    VERY IMPORTANT: It is crucial, at this stage, that you ensure that you indicate ALL those schools that you are interested in and list them in your true order of interest. This will be your only opportunity, during this on-line registration process, to select your schools of interest, within the Consortium, and your preferred order. Please ensure that the details that you submit reflect your choices. It is imperative that the data that is collected from your on-line registration form is accurate. If, following the submission of your on-line registration, you realise that you have made a mistake, please telephone the test centre school immediately. Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to rectify any mistakes that you have made by making a duplicate application.

    Special Information
    **SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Parents who consider their child has a disability under the terms of the Equality Act 2010 and/or a special educational need which would disadvantage them in the admissions process will need to complete a Special Arrangements Form. This includes any child who sits the test at Queen Mary's Grammar School but whose parents are thinking of putting Haberdashers' Adams School on their Local Authority preference form in October. Any request will only be considered with a completed Special Arrangements Form, which must be returned with supporting evidence from third parties (e.g. doctor, specialist consultant, Local Authority, etc.). It is yours (and not the School's) responsibility to provide all relevant evidence. We will NOT be requesting additional information. Please note all information must be submitted by no later than the closing date so consideration can be given to any special arrangements or reasonable adjustments. If the form has not been completed and returned to the School by the deadline NO special arrangements can be considered for your child. The Special Arrangements form will be sent to the email address you have provided.

    You must submit documentation to prove the dates when the child is in receipt of Free School Meals / when their parents served in the armed forces / in receipt of child pension from the Ministry of Defence. This needs to be submitted to the school no later than the day of the test. No late submission will be considered after this time.
    Please tick if your child is currently in receipt of, or has been in receipt of within the last six years, Free School Meals and is therefore in receipt of the pupil premium.

    IMPORTANT: Free School Meals/Pupil Premium:

    Please view the websites of all Consortium schools to understand their admissions criteria with regard to Ever 6 and Free School Meals/Ever 6 Service as detailed by the Pupil Premium Conditions of Grant. Details to be found here.

    For Haberdashers' Adams and QMGS - where you have indicated Yes to Pupil Premium/Free School Meals. You must submit documentation to prove the dates when your child is in receipt of Free School Meals/when you served in the armed forces/are in receipt of child pension from the Ministry of Defence. This needs to be submitted to the school no later than the day of the test. No paperwork will be accepted after the gate has closed and the test has commenced. The responsibility falls with the Parent/Guardian to provide this information directly to the school where your child will sit the test before the testing session.

    For QMGS - Up to 54 places will be allocated to Looked After/Pupil Premium children, whose scores exceed a minimum qualifying score. Further details can be found in our Admissions Arrangements

    For QMHS - where you have indicated Yes to Pupil Premium/Free School Meals: You must submit documentation to prove the dates of when the child was eligible for Free School Meals / when their parents served in the armed forces / in receipt of child pension from the Ministry of Defence. This needs to be submitted to the school no later than the day of the test. No late submission will be considered after this time. Up to 45 places will be allocated to Looked After/Pupil Premium children, whose scores exceed a minimum qualifying score. Further details can be found in our Admissions Arrangements.

    For WGHS - where you have indicated Yes to Pupil Premium/Free School Meals: Wolverhampton Girls' High School will require proof of your entitlement to FSM/PPG. Therefore, you will receive further communication from us in due course, which will need to be completed and returned to our Admissions Department before your daughter sits the entrance test so that your entitlement to FSM/PP can be confirmed. It is very important that your entitlement is confirmed before the entrance test takes place.
    The first twenty 'Pupil Premium' students at the time of taking the test, whose test scores are ranked highest in the merit order and have achieved a test score equal to or exceeding the qualifying score will be offered a place.

In the unlikely event of a candidate sitting the same test at more than one centre, the first result only will count.
    I understand that if my child is ill on the day of testing I need to contact the testing school to notify as illness cannot be taken into account for testing scores.

If anything is missing or invalid you will see it highlighted in red and you will not be able to confirm until corrected.
